Biography

Maksim DIMITRIEVSKI graduated and received his master’s degree from the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the American University for Europe – FON, Skopje. In 2011, he published his work: “Total Tax Revenues and Expenditures in Local Government Units with a Focus on the Municipality of Kumanovo”. He received his master’s degree on the topic “Low Level of Decentralization – Reason for Inadequate Development of Local Government Units in the Republic of Macedonia”.

Before his election as Mayor, from 2009 to 2016 he was a Member of the Municipal Council of Kumanovo, and from 2012 to 2016 he was the President of the Municipal Council of Kumanovo. He was a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia from 2016 to 2017 and Chairman of the Committee on Security and Defense, member of the Legislative and Legal Committee, deputy member of the Committee on Elections and Appointments, deputy member of the Committee on Political System and Intercommunal Relations, deputy member of the Committee on Local Self-Government, deputy member of the Delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Maksim Dimitrievski has been the Mayor of Kumanovo since 2017 as a member of SDSM, and since 2021 as an independent candidate. In November 2025, he was elected Mayor of the largest municipality in Macedonia by the newly formed party Movement ZNAM – For Our Macedonia.

At the founding assembly of the “ZNAM Movement – ​​For Our Macedonia”, on November 9th 2023 in Kumanovo, he was elected president of the party.

Dimitrievski is a father of three children.
